Tournament Team Selection

The Brookline Board made a decision several years ago that the selection of players for the post-season Tournament Teams must fair and must be inclusive. We also chose not to have a “tryout” system as it can be hurtful for the kids to have to endure being “cut.”

Therefore, in mid-May, all of the regular season coaches submit their selections from all of the players in each age group that they think represent the best 12-13 players. A list of the players with the most votes is then put together. The players chosen are then sent a letter inviting them to participate in the post-season. Because of the need to submit a roster to the Cooperstown Tournament officials, the 12 year-old boys team will be selected in early May.

We have found this to be the most fair and positive manner of selecting a team. It involves all of your child's coaches and not just the Tournament Team coach alone. If your son or daughter is not selected, it reflects the thinking of all of the coaches who have watched all of them play throughout the season. We know of no other league that selects in this way. We think it is the best way.
